Liverpool scored against three different goalkeepers but could only draw 3–3 with Luton Town at Anfield on 11 September 1982. Jake Findlay's injury forced two defenders to take turns in goal, yet Luton recovered from a half-time deficit and left the champions needing a second-half equaliser.
Brian Stein gave the visitors the lead before Graeme Souness levelled. Findlay then went off injured before the interval, with substitute Raddy Antić joining the outfield players and full-back Kirk Stephens taking over in goal.
Ian Rush beat Stephens to put Liverpool 2–1 ahead at half-time. Mal Donaghy took the goalkeeper's jersey for the second half, allowing Stephens to return to the defence.
Luton continued to attack despite the disruption. Antić put David Moss through to lift the ball over Bruce Grobbelaar and make it 2–2. Almost immediately, Moss supplied Stein, who went round the goalkeeper to restore Luton's lead.
Bob Paisley had replaced Kenny Dalglish with Craig Johnston. The substitute brought Liverpool level again with about a quarter of an hour remaining, finishing from Rush's pass to become the third Liverpool scorer to beat a different goalkeeper that afternoon.
The match ended with a point each before a crowd of 33,694.
