Liverpool scored four times inside the opening half-hour as they beat West Ham United 6–0 at Anfield on 7 April 1984. Ian Rush and Graeme Souness each scored twice, while Kenny Dalglish and Ronnie Whelan completed the scoring for the First Division leaders.
Dalglish supplied both of Rush's goals. The first came from a cross, which Rush headed past Phil Parkes early in the match. Dalglish then scored himself, before finding Rush for a left-footed finish that made it 3–0 inside twenty minutes.
Whelan added the fourth before the half-hour. Liverpool reached the interval with that lead intact, having put the match beyond West Ham through their early scoring.
Souness supplied the second-half goals, the first shortly after the hour and the second around ten minutes later. The Liverpool captain had also scored the winner against Everton in the League Cup final replay ten days earlier.
The victory left Liverpool on 69 points from 34 matches, two ahead of Manchester United. Both had eight league games remaining. West Ham were sixth.
