Kenny Dalglish scored twice in the opening seven minutes of the second half as Liverpool beat Everton 3–1 at Anfield on 7 November 1981. Ian Rush added his first Merseyside derby goal before Mick Ferguson scored a late consolation for the visitors.
The first half had remained goalless, though Liverpool made an early change when David Johnson replaced Ray Kennedy after 32 minutes. Once play resumed, two corners helped transform the match.
Dalglish's first goal came from a rebound after Jim Arnold saved Ronnie Whelan's volley. Five minutes later Dalglish was involved from the start of another move, taking a short corner to Graeme Souness before running into the penalty area. Terry McDermott supplied the final pass and Dalglish finished across Arnold to make it 2–0.
Everton's task became harder when Eamonn O'Keefe was sent off in the 68th minute for a high challenge on Whelan. Rush made it 3–0 with a quarter of an hour remaining, bundling the ball in during a scramble. The finish began his scoring record in the fixture.
Ferguson replied with five minutes left, but Liverpool had already established the decisive advantage. The win, watched by 48,861, took them above Everton to seventh in the First Division. Their neighbours fell to 12th.
