Kenny Dalglish's curling finish secured Liverpool's 2–0 victory at Arsenal on 10 September 1983. Craig Johnston had put them ahead before the interval; Dalglish's second-half goal kept Joe Fagan's side unbeaten through their opening five league matches.

The champions had scored exactly once in each of their first four First Division fixtures, winning two and drawing two. At Highbury, Johnston gave them the lead after 17 minutes.

Dalglish supplied the second goal in the 67th minute, with Michael Robinson providing the final pass. From the right of the penalty area, Dalglish turned onto his left foot and curled the ball beyond Pat Jennings into the far top corner.

The result left Liverpool fourth with 11 points from five matches. Their new manager's league start had produced three victories, two draws and only two goals conceded.
