Season overview
The season followed the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a road traffic accident in Spain on 3 July 2025. Liverpool retired Jota’s number 20 across the club.
On the pitch, Liverpool won their opening five league matches but finished fifth with 60 points, still qualifying for the Champions League. Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitiké and Alexander Isak were among the arrivals, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez departed. Ekitiké led the scoring with 17 competitive goals.
Paris Saint-Germain won both legs of the Champions League quarter-final 2–0. Manchester City ended the FA Cup run with a 4–0 quarter-final win, and Crystal Palace knocked Liverpool out of the League Cup in the fourth round after also winning the Community Shield on penalties. Mohamed Salah said farewell on the final day, and the club announced Arne Slot’s departure on 30 May.

Notes on the record
Overview evidence: paragraph 1 — lfc-jota and lfc-number-20; paragraph 2 — lfch-games, lfch-league, lfc-slot, lfc-slot-departure, lfch-transfers and lfch-scorers; paragraph 3 — lfch-games, reuters-shield, lfc-salah and lfc-slot-departure.
Older cached search results displayed fourth place and incomplete statistics. The completed 38-match LFChistory table, the official Slot profile and the club’s end-of-season statement establish fifth place and Champions League qualification.
A secondary report described the European exit as the last 16. Both dated quarter-final fixtures and the club’s statement establish the quarter-final; the incorrect description is not used.
The Jota paragraph reports the deaths and the club tribute without speculating about the crash’s cause or attributing later sporting results to grief.
Salah’s farewell and Slot’s departure close this account. The next manager’s appointment and incoming 2026 summer transfers belong to 2026–27. That season is still in progress and is not presented as a completed history.
Selected senior transfers only; no fee or British-record claim. The Community Shield result is supported by the retrieved Reuters report; repeated direct opening failed, so that access limitation is retained here.
