Season overview
Liverpool won the FA Cup and League Cup, beating Chelsea on penalties after goalless finals: 6–5 in the FA Cup and 11–10 in the League Cup. In the Premier League they finished second with 92 points, one behind Manchester City. The campaign included 5–0 and 4–0 league wins over Manchester United.
Ibrahima Konaté arrived in the summer and Luis Díaz in January. Mohamed Salah scored 31 competitive goals, including 23 in the league, earning a share of the Golden Boot alongside the Playmaker award for 13 assists. Liverpool won all six Champions League group games and eliminated Inter, Benfica and Villarreal before losing the final 1–0 to Real Madrid.
Supporters faced dangerous crowding and police sprays outside the Stade de France. The independent review published in February 2023 found UEFA primarily responsible for the safety failures. UEFA also apologised for messages that had unjustly blamed Liverpool fans.

The Paris finding is explicitly retrospective. Initial allegations against supporters are not repeated as fact. The primary review, rather than early press statements, establishes the safety account.
