Liverpool scored three times in the opening six minutes of the second half to turn a 1–0 lead into a decisive advantage against Norwich City at Anfield on 21 February 1979. Kenny Dalglish and David Johnson finished with two goals apiece in a 6–0 First Division victory.
Dalglish had put Liverpool ahead in the third minute, but Norwich reached half-time without conceding again. John Bond's side still had only a single goal to recover when they returned to the field.
That position disappeared almost immediately. Johnson made it 2–0 in the 46th minute, Dalglish added a third in the 48th and Johnson scored again in the 51st. The contest had changed within a few minutes of the restart, with both forwards now on a hat-trick.
The remaining goals came from elsewhere. Alan Kennedy scored with ten minutes left and Ray Kennedy added the sixth in the final minute. A crowd of 35,754 saw Liverpool complete a league double over Norwich, following their 4–1 victory at Carrow Road in October.
The win left Bob Paisley's side top of the table with 39 points from 24 matches. Arsenal and Everton had 36 apiece, having each played two games more. Liverpool's six goals had reinforced a lead already supported by games in hand.
