Jan Mølby scored twice from the penalty spot as Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 4–1 at Anfield on 28 September 1985. The victory followed the previous weekend's win at Everton, but Spurs had drawn level early in the second half before Liverpool scored three times in eleven minutes.
There had been little between the teams for much of the first half. Mark Lawrenson broke the deadlock just before the interval, beating Ray Clemence from a tight angle near the byline.
Kevin MacDonald replaced Steve McMahon at half-time. Tottenham then equalised almost immediately through John Chiedozie, who worked clear to shoot past Bruce Grobbelaar.
Jim Beglin's pass restored Liverpool's advantage. It took Graham Roberts out of the move and released Ian Rush, whose low finish made it 2–1 after 56 minutes.
Mølby's penalties followed in the 61st and 67th minutes. The first came after a challenge involving Chris Hughton and Ronnie Whelan; Derek Hodgson's contemporary Observer report questioned the award. Roberts' foul on Rush brought the second, which Mølby also converted.
